The Natural History Museum of the United Kingdom describes the fateful day 66 million years ago when dinosaurs had “the ultimate bad day.” That’s when an asteroid 6 miles across hit Earth, killing off the dinosaurs after they’d ruled for 180 million years. It’s unfortunate for the dinosaurs, but it’s probably for the best that we didn’t have to live in fear of giant, deadly, toothy reptiles.
This means that dinosaurs will continue to exist in our imaginations, nightmares, museums, and slot machines. Play’n GO’s Raging Rex and its sequel did a good job of keeping the prehistoric theme alive in their slot machines. Here we go with the sequel, Raging Rex 3. Raging Rex 3 is, like its forerunners, an aesthetically appealing slot machine. The animations, volcano, and flora all work together to create a convincing recreation of a frightening time in Earth’s history. The artwork in Raving Rex 3 is stunning, with bright colors and a cartoony style that immediately sets the mood.
Raging Rex is played on a 6-reel, 4-row gaming panel with 4,096 possibilities to win, same like the previous two games. It has a medium-volatile mathematical model (Play’n GO gave it a 6 out of 10 for volatility) and may be played with a wide range of return-to-player (RTP) percentages (the default is 96.2%). When you’re ready to try your luck among the dinosaurs, you may place a bet anywhere from 10 pence to £/€100.
Matching symbols on at least three adjacent reels, counting from the far left, trigger a win in this game’s ways system. The low payouts are represented by a collection of 6 pebbles, or something similar, with varied imprinted patterns, and pay off between 1.1 and 1.4 times the stake for a 6 OAK outcome. Six matching high payouts (there are four types of dinosaurs) provide multipliers of 4x to 6x the wager. Rex and the hatchlings act as wilds, replacing normal pay symbols as necessary. Six wilds in a winning combination are worth six times the initial wager.
Features of Raging Rex 3 Slot Machine
Both in the main game and in the three optional bonus rounds, Rex and his Hatchlings play important roles.
Rex
When Rex appears on reels 2 through 6 completely stacked, he may substitute for any symbol except the scatter. Each time Rex lands in view, a respin is triggered and one reel is shifted to the left. A pair of hatchlings continue to appear on the reels, following closely after Rex as he walks. The leftmost reel is the one that Rex spins for the final time.
Bonus Turns
When 3 or more scatters appear, the free spins bonus round begins, and the amount of spins awarded is determined by the active feature. Three, four, five, or six scatters activate the first of two stated below bonus rounds, awarding 7, 9, 11, or 13 free spins, respectively. There are three different options available to players:
Rex is sticky and may travel in any direction during the Feeding Frenzy function. At the beginning of each round, one of the four dinosaur pay symbols serves as a hunting objective, and anytime Rex crosses or pauses on that sign, he eats it. Rex gains a +1 multiplier for every sixth target it consumes. Free games are increased by 1, 2, 3, or 4 when 2, 3, 4, or 5 scatters appear.
Rex is absent from this round of “Hatchling Mania,” but the baby dinosaurs can still adhere to surfaces and go in whichever direction they want. Multipliers from hatchlings, which can range from 2x to 3x, stack when applied to the same victory. If you get 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters, you’ll get 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 more free games, respectively.
You have three lives to start this round of Survival. If a dino token lands in one of the game’s 12 available slots, it will be devoured, restoring a life. When Rex eats a dinosaur, he absorbs its worth, which is represented by a sticky Bone symbol. Rex’s value is paid out at the conclusion of the feature, with initial values of 1x, 2x, 5x, or 10x. Each Bone icon adds one to the meter of bones. When the Bone meter is full, all Bone symbols disappear, and the values of all dinosaur symbols are increased by one. Initially, it will take 6 steps to fill the bone meter, but after the first two resets, it will rise by 1 step (to a maximum of 8 steps). More than three scatters will offer a symbol upgrade if the bonus round is activated.
Jury Verdict in Raging Rex 3’s Slot
You can’t go wrong with Rex-class games if you’re looking for some dinosaur-themed gambling. As the series has progressed, it has grown in size and complexity, with new elements being included. Raging Rex 2 greatly upped the ante, and the original has lasted the test of time rather well. The maximum payout remains the same in Raging Rex 3, but it has been replaced with a brand-new bonus round that delivers something the first two games lacked, all while looking far better.
The themes of the next two rounds, Feeding Frenzy and Hatchling Mania, are similar to the ones established in the first, with some key differences. One is that there are now far fewer opportunities for free spins, creating a possibly more stressful and urgent atmosphere than previously. The thrill of Feeding Frenzy is upped by the inclusion of a hunting goal for Rex and an increasing win multiplier. Survival is the newest addition, and for that reason alone, Rex lovers should give it a try. Hatchling Mania is a connecting theme amongst the games.
There has been no change in the winning possibilities between parts 2 and 3, as referred to before, but at a dino-sized 30,000 times the stake, there is little to complain about. Overall, Raging Rex 3 is a solid expansion of the Rex series that proves it has plenty of fury left to spare.
